BIO - Sevag Dilsizian

Sevag Dilsizian began working in the jewelry industry in 1991. As an apprentice, he was taught how to create unique pieces involving intricate handwork from design to finish. After mastering the craft, he joined his family’s jewelry manufacturing business as chief designer and manufacturer.

From 2000 to 2003, he spent time in Los Angeles expanding his creative spectrum by working for numerous jewelry brands before moving back to Beirut to head his family’s retail company. After more than 20 years of experience in the field, Sevag was motivated to create his own line of products, such that he could address formal and conceptual challenges beyond the limitations of the commercial framework of his profession. Over the course of one year, Sevag created his collection “Story Metal (CU)” under the brand name “DAS”.

Focused mainly on designing rings, Sevag’s intention through DAS was to move away from ideals of jewelry, solely as pieces of luxury and lending value to each ring as artwork. Hence, using gold – a standard in his industry – was not his favored option. Through the unique use of copper to characterize reality, he aimed at new perspectives of expression through his work. Sevag’s elaborate, hand-molded series of rings has earned him the post of jewelry designer for Starch Foundation’s 2012 – 2013 season. Sevag continues to expand his collection, assigning dynamic personalities to each original piece, incrementally.
